This is the first recording of a set of six quartets out of the thirty or so by Telemann that came down to us. When this CD appeared, N.A. wrote in Gramophone "the style is uniform, the writing is skillful and the idiom of that 'galant' phraseolgy which we associate?with Telemann's chamber music?.Telemann scored the works for flute, violin, viola and bass but? American Baroque introduces the distinctive timbre of triple harp instead of a harpsichord in some of the movements.
