Fortepianist John Khouri has made numerous internationally acclaimed recordings of solo keyboard music by Weber, Beethoven, Hummel, Clementi, and Cramer. He writes: "This recording of the 27 Chopin Etudes was made directly after public performances in various Northern California locations. I first began playing the etudes on the early piano in 1991 and have programmed them in my concerts fairly frequently since then. Even though early music performers routinely play 18th & 19th-century music on contemporary instruments or copies, it is not so usual to hear the more virtuosic works of Chopin played on instruments of his time. It takes not only a performer with the requisite technique to master these extremely demanding works (such as the etudes); but also, an instrument capable of reproducing them without constant technical problems. I feel especially fortunate, therefore, that my 1832 Broadwood made my realization of these studies possible and that the beauty, color and virtuosity of Chopin's music could be fully experienced by listeners".
