BEECHAM IN CONCERT, Vol. II
CD-631(1)
"Like the EMI Sibelius Second and Dvorak Eighth, this release offers a sustained view of Beecham performing in a live concert setting. The Nutcracker is quite a bit more quicksilver in effect than the 1954 account on the EMI series. The 'Haffner' is a gracious lyrical reading that in no way slights the crowd-pleasing energy and brilliance of that score, and the two Wagner excerpts are typically plastic in their phrasing and tempo relationships. The 'big line' is always gratifyingly clear and delivered with an intriguing combination of finesse and raw power." -Fanfare
