In 1954 conductor Leopold Stokowski introduced Cogan at the age of 22, when the Cleveland Orchestra premiered his Fantasia for Orchestra. Since then he has taught and lectured, and his works have been programmed in western Europe as well as in Japan, Korea, Russia, Canada and throughout the United States. As a composer in residence at the New England Conservatory, he has pioneered new approaches to musical sound and of musics everywhere. Selected as one of the five outstanding women composers of the 20th century (with Lili Boulanger and Ruth Crawford), the American composer Escot has been featured in numerous festivals and received extraordinary critical acclaim. Particularly, this was the case when her Symphony No. 5 Sands… was performed by the New York Philharmonic in 1975. Like Robert Cogan she teaches at the New England Conservatory. This collection brings together works by these two composers spanning a period of three decades
