Description
Jeff Song & Lowbrow also recorded at the same session from which these tracks derive an album called Rules of Engagement (Asian Improv Records). A review of this sister album by Sam Prestianni in the April 1997 issue of Jazzis says: "There are few electric bassists in modern jazz with such a broad and expressive palette and mature sense of collectivity as Jeff Song… Song doesn't hog the spotlight with grandiose slap-funk techniques and excessive solos; rather, he takes an understated (though not backseated) approach, successfully integrating his four-string into the album's largely improvised format. He also plays up his instrument's tonal strengths with long, sustained notes and vibrato-laden, legato passages. That's not to say he doesn't lay down rock-heavy riffs… and solid backbeat support…"
